Mary has a decade of strategic communications experience at some of the top public relations and communications agencies including Weber Shandwick and OLSON.

Prior to launching Mary Birkhauser Communications, Mary was a Director in OLSON's public relations practice focusing on clients in highly regulated industries and consumer packaged goods companies such as McDonald's Global, MillerCoors, Kraft, and a leading industry coalition made up of the top key players and represented by senior global officers. Her experience includes strategic planning, reputation management, media relations, thought leadership, internal communications, social media content creation and community management, and organization management. Mary also has experience in business development driving strategic ideas that solve clients’ business challenges.

Mary began her career at Weber Shandwick working with clients such as Kentucky Fried Chicken, AmeriCares, Mars Candies, MilkPEP's got Milk? Campaign and Allstate Insurance creating and executing robust communications campaigns including national media relations, executive communications and major product launches.

Prior to joining Olson, Mary worked at a boutique Chicago agency, Henson Consulting, running the national marketing and nutrition campaign for the Western Pistachio Association (now American Pistachio Growers) interfacing with senior leadership at national food trade associations on nutrition research and regulation issues.
